Depending on the weather it can get very hot, especially when in full turnouts. The gear is heavy—turnouts and breathing air tanks, even the equipment can be quite heavy. We arrange our days to take advantage of the cooler mornings and will teach participants how to adapt and overcome some of these challenges.
We take firefighter health and safety seriously: warmups before training, safety briefings, regular breaks including snacks and plenty of water, plus electrolyte/rapid hydration packets. We have medically trained staff (EMT to Paramedics), basic first aid equipment and AEDs on site, Band-Aids, moleskin, disinfectants, and ice packs. If you have health concerns specific to you, we need to be informed prior to camp.
